Domain names

The domain name is the basis of every internet address. Our Communication House, for example, can be found on the web via our domain ‘claerhout.be’, ‘communicationhouse.be’, ‘claerhout.eu’

A well-thought out, easily recognisable domain name is important. Your target group must be able to find their way intuitively to your business. Products, brands, events or promotional events can also have their own web pages with specific domain names, such as www.communicationloft.be.

It goes without saying that each domain name must be unique. Several recognised agents have been appointed for this. Claerhout nv can register all Belgian and European domain names for you.

.eu: domain name for the whole of Europe
Companies and organisations who work internationally and whose markets are in Europe, have a lot to gain by registering with a .eu domain name so that they can increase their image within Europe and avoid any possible misuse of ‘their’ domain name.

Although opinions are divided over the impact of the .eu extension, analysts expect that .eu will become the most commonly used extension after .com.
Just as internet users now use .be or .com after a name, .eu will become more commonly used in the near future in addition to local domain name extensions.

In addition to this, search robots in Europe will give priority to .eu over .com. Make sure that no other organisation/person can use your own name in the .eu domain.

Summary:
- European image
- .eu will become the best known domain extension in Europe
- new extension, so good chance of a strong domain name
- internationally recognisable
- better position in search engines
- professional image

Who can register a .eu domain name?
1.Businesses, companies or institutions that are officially registered and whose central administration or actual business activities are within the European Community.
2.Organisations, associations and foundations established in the European Community.
3.Natural persons who are permanent residents of the European Community.

Registration limitations and conditions of registration
The composition of .eu domain names must satisfy certain criteria:
- name does not contain any other characters than 'a-z', 'A-Z', '0-9' en '-'
- name does not begin or end with a '-'
- name has at least two (2) characters and a maximum of sixty-three (63) characters
- name can not have '-' in the third and fourth position (e.g.: do--mainname.eu)
Already registered domain names ('first come, first served' rule) or domain names that are 'on hold' cannot be registered. A domain name is placed 'on hold' as soon as legal proceedings concerning the domain name are instigated, whether they are brought before a court of justice or otherwise.
An active e-mail address is required.

Our service? We check to see if the domain name you want is still available. If so, we will take care of the registration. From that moment onwards you can use the name for websites and e-mail addresses. What’s also important is that this domain name can no longer by used by your competitors.
